Two Focal photography titles make "must read" for Shutterbug

2008-05-27

Shutterbug has named two Focal titles as recommended reading for advanced digital photography tips

On May 26th, Shutterbug Magazine named five books on their recommended reading list for advanced digital photography tips. Two Focal titles were included!

The Photographer’s Eye
by Michael Freeman
2007, Paperback, 192 pages, $29.95

Design is the single most important factor in creating a successful photograph. The ability to see the potential for a strong picture and then organize the graphic elements into an effective, compelling composition has always been one of the key skills in making photographs. The Photographer’s Eye shows how anyone can develop the ability to see and shoot great digital photographs. The book explores all the traditional approaches to composition and design, but crucially, it also addresses the new digital technique of shooting in the knowledge that a picture will later be edited, manipulated, or montaged to result in a final image that may be very different from the one seen in the viewfinder.

Light: Science & Magic, 3ed
by Fil Hunter, Steven Biver and Paul Fuqua
2007, Paperback, 320 pages, $39.95

An amazing (and some would say magical) resource on photographic lighting that has been talked about in the community and recommended for years. This highly respected guide has been thoroughly updated and revised for content and design - it is now produced in full color! It introduces a logical theory of photographic lighting so if you are starting out in photography you will learn how to predict results before setting up lights. This is not primarily a how-to book with only set examples for you to copy. Rather, Light: Science and Magic provides you with a comprehensive theory of the nature and principles of light to allow you to use lighting to express your own creativity.
